large revenue proportion for LED lighting in 2014

LED packaging house Everlight Electronics is likely to see the revenue proportion for LED lighting exceed that for LED backlighting in 2014, according to company chairman Robert Yeh.

Everlight expects fourth-quarter 2013 revenues from LED lighting to rise 30% on year and those from LCD TV backlighting to be flat on quarter, Yeh said. Everlight's overall capacity utilization in the fourth quarter stands at 90%, Yeh indicated, but revenues from TV backlighting for first-quarter 2014 are likely to slip 10-20% sequentially.

LED lighting and backlighting each account for 25% of consolidated revenues currently and power supply, consumer electronics and digital signage panels together for 50%, Yeh said.

While competition from China-based LED makers is increasing, Taiwan- and South Korea-based makers each share nearly 50% of the LED backlight unit (BLU) procurement by the six largest China-based LCD TV vendors TCL, Skyworth, Changhong, Konka, Hisense and Haier, Yeh indicated.
